We work all year, saving and waiting for that special time. For some of us it is a week, for others it is 2 weeks. The really lucky get even more. No matter how long, it all means the same thing. Vacation. A time to relax and enjoy yourself.

You are taking a trip to a strange place, but you dont care because you have made all the plans and you will have fun.

Here are 5 suggestions to help you to enjoy your Caribbean vacation.

The Beach Is Truly The Beginning

When you think of the Caribbean, the first thing that comes to mind is the beach, so why not start there. Check in to your hotel and take a walk along the beach. Get to know the area, speak with the locals and get advice on places you can go to.

Most beaches around the hotels will have vendors. Be kind to them and they will be kind to you. Caribbean people are very loving and will understand a polite no. Get your hair braided, or rent a jet ski. Snorkle at the many reefs or even sunbathe.

Day Tour

Caribbean islands are rich with history and one way to learn some of this history is through a day tour. There are two ways of day touring,

  1. Rent a car and get a map. This way is better for the more adventurous. Stay away from the seedy areas, and don't be afraid to ask for directions along the way.
  2. Hire a driver. Let your driver know what your interests are so he can cater his tour to your needs. Stay with drivers that are a part of the taxi association. Your hotel receptionist will be more than happy to get you one.

Take A Trip

Yes, that's right. Take a trip. Most of the islands are within close proximity to each other, which makes it easy to travel by boat, ferry or plane for a reasonable price. This opens up new possibilities for enjoying yourself.

Adventure Antigua is a good example of this. They offer circum navigation trips, visiting some of the smaller island along the way. Other charter companies will take you to the sister island, Barbuda. Most include free drinks and lunch.

LIAT offers day tours to most of the Caribbean islands. Since they operate commuter planes, they can get you to where the action is.

Festivities

Since most of the islands depend on tourism as their main industry, there are alot festivities. It might be a jazz festival, carnival or even a yachting regatta.

An example of this is Antigua's Sailing Regatta. Although the races are the priority, you would be surprised at the amount of partying you will be doing. There are both day and night time activies.

If you are there for the carnival, join a mas troupe, or even take in one of the shows

Wind Down

The fifth day has come. Time for you to wind down. Take a walk through the city and visit the shopping areas for your souvenirs. Keep in mind, the closer you are to the tourist areas, the more expensive these items will be.

Good deals can be found when it comes to spirits and jewelry if you stay in the duty free areas. Keep in mind if you wait to buy items at the airport they will carry a premium.

After a day of shopping, return to the beach, take that final dip and prepare to leave.

The best part of this vacation, is you can end every day at the beach, even visiting a restaraunt.

Now it is necessary to remind eveyone, take the same precautions you would take at home. Exercise caution and never be too trusting.

Thank you. I am thinking of doing one to show how cheap it can be to travel, if you are a person that can plan a year ahead.
